1st Selection Shoot
In fine, but overcast conditions 38 of some of the state's best sporting clay shooters contested the 100 target event over two layouts at the Shoalhaven CTC near Nowra on February 25. Competitors travelled from Sydney, Taree, Mudgee, Dubbo, Wallerawang, Old Bar, Griffith, Wollongong and many places along the South Coast. The shoot was part of a 5-Stand weekend that was preceded by the ACTA Illawarra 5-Stand Championships on the Saturday. This was unfortunately affected by a rain in the afternoon.

Laurie Cook (SSAA Illawarra) and his helpers set up two interesting layouts using local traps and the SSAA 5-Stand trailer managed by John Nichols. There was an excellent variety of targets that kept challenging competitors throughout the day. No one managed a possible of 25 targets.

Overall winner was Dubbo shooter Dean Delaney with a score of 84/100.

Greg Allen (Griffith) won AA Grade (80) followed by Craig Tilley (Sydney) (78).

Rod McCloy (Old Bar) took out A Grade (81) followed by Doug Brenton (Sydney) (77) and Frank Scamballone (Liverpool) (75).

Mark Eschwend (Moruya) (75) won B Grade ahead of Andrew Webb (Wallerwang) (74) and John Dickey (Sydney) after a shoot-off.

Paul Bone (Nowra) (70) won C Grade followed by Mark Jeffcoat (Nowra) (67) and Paul Zurek (Sydney) (65).

Joanne Nichols (Mudgee) won the Ladies with 74.

David Brenton (Sydney) (79) was the top Veteran followed by Warren Brown (Griffith) (78) and Bruce Peters (Sydney) (59).
