SSAA Victorian Muzzle Loading Club 2008 Competition Programme

Each month, events will be shot in the order shown as far as humanly possible. Championship and Open Muzzle Loading Rifle events are held concurrently where convenient. Inclement weather, a lack of competitors or other crises beyond the control of the organisers may result in changes. A lunch break of 30 minutes is usually taken around noon.

Black Powder shooting is not permitted at Eagle Park on a day of Total Fire Ban for the Central Area. For information regarding Total Fire Bans contact the Victorian Bushfire Information Line on 1800 240 667.

January 19
Handgun: Class 3 (Open): 25m Precision. Cowboy Single Action + Lever Action.
Practice, experimentation, instruction and chit chat.

February 16
Handgun: Cowboy Single Action + Lever Action (9am start).
Handgun: Class 3 (Open): 25m Precision (concurrent with Breech Loading Rifle events).
Breech Loading Rifle: 100m Bench Rest, 100m Prone or Cross-Sticks.
Muzzle Loading Smooth Bore: 50m Offhand.
Muzzle Loading Shotgun: 15 Clays.

March 15
Class 4 Muzzle Loading Rifle Championship.
Handgun: Cowboy Single Action + Lever Action (9am start).
Handgun: Class 3 (Open): 25m Precision, 50m Precision.
Flintlock Muzzle Loading Rifle: 50m Offhand.
Breech Loading Shotgun: 15 Clays.
Class 4 Muzzle Loading Rifle Championship: 100m Bench Rest, 150m Bench Rest, 200m Bench Rest (all 45 minutes).
Open Muzzle Loading Rifle events: 50m Bench Rest*, 100m Bench Rest*, Novelty event*.

April 19
Breech Loading Rifle Championship.
Note that some events are concurrent with Muzzle Loading Rifle events.

August 16
Muzzle Loading Shotgun Championship.
Handgun: Cowboy Single Action + Lever Action (9am start).
Handgun: Class 3 (Open): 25m Precision (concurrent with Breech Loading Rifle events).
Breech Loading Rifle: 100m Kneeling, 200m Bench Rest.
Muzzle Loading Smooth Bore: 50m Offhand.
Muzzle Loading Shotgun Championship event: 25 Clays (12 Low + 13 High elevation).
Open Muzzle Loading Rifle events: Reverse Target (selected distance)*, 100m Bench Rest*, 100m Prone / Cross Sticks*.

September 20
Flintlock Muzzle Loading Rifle Championship.
Handgun: Cowboy Single Action + Lever Action (9am start).
Handgun Class 3 (Open): 25m Precision, 25m Timed.
Flintlock Rifle Championship events: 35m Rabbit, 50m Offhand, 75m Moses Stick, 100m Cross Sticks.
Open Muzzle Loading Rifle events: 35m Rabbit*, 50m Snap*, 75m Offhand*, 100m Cross Sticks*, Gong.

October 18
Class 3 Muzzle Loading Rifle Championship.
Handgun: Cowboy Single Action + Lever Action (9am start).
Handgun: Class 3 (Open): 25m Precision (concurrent with Breech Loading Rifle event).
Breech Loading Rifle: 200m Bench Rest.
Breech Loading Shotgun: 15 clays.
Class 3 Muzzle Loading Rifle Championship events: 50m Offhand, 50m Snap, 100m Any Position (45 minutes), 200m
Bench Rest (45 minutes). Note that 20 per cent handicap applies to Class 4 ML rifles in 200m event if competing against Class 1 or 2 ML rifles.
Open Muzzle Loading Rifle events: 50m Bench Rest*, 50m Offhand*, 50m Snap*, 100m Bench Rest.

November 15 & 16
State Championships.
Including one Handgun: Single Action + Lever Action and Class 3 (Open): 25m Precision competitions each day.

December 20
Christmas Novelty Shoot.
Including Handgun: Single Action (9am start) and Class 3 (Open): 25m Precision (9.30am start).

Please note the following
1. Cowboy Single Action + Lever Action events commence at 9am. Other monthly events commence at 10am.
2. Events are 13 shots with the best 10 to count, unless otherwise stated.
3. Gong events are by elimination after three shots.
4. 30 minutes are allowed for events, except where otherwise stated.
5. Offhand Off-The-Body events require that the competitor carry all loading materials, with the exception of a loading rod (a 10-point penalty shall apply). Powder may be carried in a powder horn or flask for these events. Spotting is not permitted.
6. VMLC Member Book requirements regarding sights. Adjustable sights, if fitted to Class 1 and 2 Rifles, must not be adjusted during a competition.

Aggregates for 2007
Cowboy Single Action + Lever Action and Breech Loading Shotgun events are excluded from this scheme. Aggregates for Muzzle Loading Rifle, Muzzle Loading Flintlock Rifle, Handgun, Muzzle Loading Shotgun and Breech Loading Rifle will be finalised following the October shoot and will be based on:

• Muzzle Loading Rifle: nine shoots, best six to count (C1 & C2 Championship aggregates included).
• Muzzle Loading Flintlock Rifle: four shoots, best three to count (Championship aggregates included).
• Handgun: nine shoots, best three to count (Championship aggregates included).
• Muzzle Loading Shotgun: four shoots, best three to count (Championship score included).
• Breech Loading Rifle: four shoots, best three to count (Championship aggregates included).
• The scores of competitors shooting Championship or alternative events, but not taking part in Championships, will be included in aggregates. Muzzle Loading Rifle aggregates include Flintlock scores in Flintlock Championship, but not 200m Bench Rest events or their alternatives, which are not part of a Championship (May only).

Awards: February to October
Each month, award cards will be given to place-getters in events and an award for the highest Muzzle Loading Rifle aggregate score.
Events over which the monthly aggregate is taken are shown with a *.
Circumstances on the day might result in minor changes to that indicated.
Trophies are given for the various Class Champions in March to October shoots. Perpetual shields are given for champions in all classes (subject to Executive Committee approval). Trophies are given for highest yearly aggregate in the five classes above.
