Agronomists say a New South Wales duck shooting season wouldn't help to minimise damage to the Riverina's rice crop. The 2010 floods have allowed perfect breeding conditions for ducks and they have swooped on rice patties in the Murray Valley. The Victorian Government announced a full duck shooting season this year, with game bird populations at their highest levels since the 1980s. John Fowler from the Department of Primary Industries in NSW says guns are not the solution.
