Salt on wounds

Opinion, The Australian, March 16, 2011

Senator Ian Macdonald, the Federal Opposition spokesman for Northern and Remote Australia, has had a gutful.
Quoth he, "I am sick and tired of trying to convince 'looney left' greenies and Labor politicians that crocodiles lurking in or near cities and towns need to be culled or removed as a matter of urgency."
So what better way to strike back at the aforementioned looneys than issue a threat to pop a saltwater croc in Canberra's Lake Burley Griffin? Fight fire with fire, as they say.
As Macdonald continues, "It's only a matter of time before someone dies in the jaws of one of these prehistoric reptiles. If nothing else, putting a croc into Lake Burley Griffin or the Brisbane River might be the only way to highlight the problem to those blinkered politicians who seem to believe that crocs are more important than humans."
Come on, Senator, actions speak louder than words. Just don't wait too long; a saltie won't last terribly well in the autumnal chill of Lake Burley Griffin, and we're not sure a croc carcass will make quite the right point.
