Victorian duck season will open in March

The duck hunting season has been revived in the south-west.
Putting an end to any uncertainty, the Sporting Shooters’ Association of Australia has welcomed the announcement that there will be a duck hunting season next year.
SSAA Victoria hunting and conservation manager Colin Wood said the shooting season would open on March 20.
“A modified season shortened by two weeks with a reduced bird bag limit is eminently sensible.” he said.
Mr Wood said he was pleased to see that Minister Tim Holding had acted in line with recommendations from the Hunting Advisory Committee, a statutory government body.
“Improved rainfall and environmental outlook have brought about increased duck numbers, so that a season can be readily sustained without threatening any species.
For our detractors, it is interesting to contemplate that there are plenty of game ducks across Australia, while other bird species are quite depleted.
“This puts paid to major arguments opposing duck hunting.”
