Midweek (Mackay & Sarina), Page: 30. Wednesday, 2 December 2009

The Sporting Shooters’ Association of Australia Mackay branch held a 50m Rimfire Benchrest shoot in quite good conditions on November 21 - it is very pleasant shooting at night this time of year.
Best single target score for the night was 248.13 shot by Joe Caruana, equalling the club record held by both himself and Bob Mulder. 1st overall Joe Caruana (737.35); 2nd Bob Mulder (720.24); 3rd Noel Spry (719.21).
On the Sunday, Rimfire Benchrest Hunter Class and groups were shot in gusty hot conditions. 1st Joe Carauna with a score of 484.5; 2nd was a brand-new shooter who had come to have a look before joining, was loaned a rifle and ammunition and shown what to do and shot a first up score of 482.12; Cec McConnell 3rd with 481.14.
There was nothing spectacular in the group shoot with very trying conditions: 1st Cec McConnell 1.674, 2nd Ray Bowater 1.77l and 3rd Wolf Weeken 1 .994.
On Saturday, November 28, the branch held a Centrefire Hunter Class Benchrest shoot over 100 and 200 yards in very hot conditions. 1st Bob Mulder (294.9); 2nd Brian Brienesse (292.8); 3rd Noel Spry (291.5). This was the final shoot for Centrefire this year.
