Victoria duck hunting update
ABC Gippsland, Sale. Mornings. 23 Nov 2009 08.39AM
Foenander says the ALP Victoria state conference was held last weekend. She says delegates endorsed a permanent ban on recreational duck shooting, meaning the government will now have to put this policy before Parliament. Trevor Poulton, spokesman, ALP Members Opposed to Duck Shooting, says the government has previously opposed the ban due to fears of losing country votes. Foenander notes that recent polls suggest that country areas are turning away from Labor. Poulton says country voters remain important to the party, but says their long term in government means that they are more confident to take action. Poulton discusses the options that Premier Brumby now has, which he says includes imposing a moratorium or implementing the ban which would bring Victoria into line with the policy of Queensland, New South Wales and Western Australia who have all banned duck shooting.
