Murray Sunset National Park goat cull program

ABC Mildura Swan Hill, Mildura. Rural Report. 19 Nov 2009 06.50AM

In six years, the Nhill Sporting Shooters Association of Australia has shot dead more than 2000 feral goats for Parks Victoria at the Murray Sunset National Park. The shooters have donated over 6000 hours of their time to the Feral Goat Pest Animal Program. Kent Goldsworthy, Member, Nhill Sporting Shooters Association of Australia, says there are 250 members in the Nhill branch and within the Association is a CPM Group that has 22 members that have been working in the Murray Sunset National Park. The program has been running for six years and each trip to the Park lasts an average of two days. The Association was the first to trial the program. He says it is good to see the park recovering from the impact of the goats and explains they use high-powered rifles so the goats don’t suffer.
