Police officers, club members and Shepparton took aim and fired at the Annual Blue Ribbon Clay Target Simulated Shoot on Saturday.
While attendance did not reach the expected number, Sporting Shooters Association of Australia Shepparton president Geoff Morton said about 80 people turned up to the Benalla Rd shooting range for an eventful day.
“We (the association) raised around $3000 for the Blue Ribbon Foundation, which takes it to $12 000 since it began six years ago.
“It’s a great day for the cops and the public to break down their differences, enjoy the day and raise a bit of money.
“The event is just going to grow more and we are looking forward to next year.” Mr Morton paid tribute to Arnie Warburton, who initiated the shoot-out in 2004. and said he should take most of the credit for the fundraiser.
Arnie a few years ago decided to have the fundraiser and he has put plenty of work into it; he has made this grow.
“I know the Blue Ribbon Foundation are very grateful for his dedication.” All money raised on the day goes towards purchasing medical equipment and machinery at the Goulburn Valley Base Hospital.
Last year, the Blue Ribbon Foundation donated $250 000 to the hospital and is on target to eclipse the total this year.
In September, Frank Eyre father of murdered police officer Damian Eyre skydived and landed in the middle of Shepparton’s Deakin Reserve before the first bounce of the Goulburn Valley Grand Final to raise money for the foundation. Donations to the foundation can be made at www.remember.org.au or at your local police station.
