Letter - Guns easy targets

Adelaide Advertiser, Page: 16. Wednesday, 21 October 2009

I am a sporting pistol shooter and I enjoy target-only shooting, I have my licence for one year at a time and I must pay for it.
I must also be a paid-up member of the sporting shooters’ association, a member of a gun club again at a cost then also a financial member of the pistol section of my club.
That’s four costs per year, not one, as implied by The Advertiser, (yesterday).
I must attend and do a number of professional shoots per year, sign in at two locations every attendance, and have my score sheet signed. So pistol ownership is not free and easy by any means.
The morons that misuse firearms do not have licences. They use illegal firearms, so the Government and the police have their work cut out for them.
But as usual they will go after the easy target, the licensed users. Easy to find us, hey Mr Rann.
The police are supposedly under-funded and lack the resources to go after the real criminals, yet found time recently at 1.30am to attend my home unannounced to carry out a gun storage inspection.
Tough on crime? I think not. Intimidation of the innocent more like it.
Mark M Aldridge, Independent candidate for the Legislative Council, Virginia.
