Kangaroo numbers affecting asparagus season

ABC North West WA Karratha. WA Country Hour. 09 Oct 2009 12:47PM

Peter Frost, Asparagus Farmer blames the late start to the asparagus season and kangaroo numbers for an approximately 80% reduction in asparagus growth. Frost says that the dry summer meant there was little food for kangaroos in the bush, and so they ate Frost’s asparagus instead. Frost says that they are reluctant to cull kangaroos, and fencing the property is prohibitively expensive, and mentions the damage crows do to the young asparagus. Frost also talks about the method used to harvest asparagus, and discusses the relative sizes of WA asparagus farms.
