Federal Environment Minister refuses crocodile safari hunting

ABC Darwin. 14:00 News. 02 Oct 2009 02:01PM

Peter Garrett, Federal Minister for the Environment, says Indigenous communities will have more opportunities to make money from crocodiles, despite his refusal to allow crocodile safari hunting. Northern Territory Government has applied to trial the idea allowing 25 crocodiles to be shot by game hunters every year. Some Aboriginal groups are disappointed the proposal has been refused, but Garrett says they will benefit by the number of eggs that can be harvested each year and adds that he does not think that crocodile safari hunting is an effective management tool.
