Firearms Safety Awards Presented at Wycheproof

Volunteer Firearm Safety Instructors for the Swan Hill, Gannawarra and Buloke Police service area have recently been recognized for their contribution to firearm safety throughout the area.
On Thursday, September 10, at a training seminar held in Wycheproof~ fifteen volunteer instructors were presented Certificates of Appreciation. Police Service Area Manager, Inspector Garry Bennett of Swan Hill Police Headquarters awarded these Certificates recognising the dedication and commitment of volunteers serving 10, 15 and 20 years of volunteering service Instructors travelled from Swan Hill, Kerang, Cohuna, Sea Lake, Woomelang. Hopebun, Birchip, Donald and Charlton to attend the Training and presentation evening.
Firearm Safety Instructors volunteer their time, approximately three hours a month to service their local communities by providing Firearm Safety courses for persons wishing to obtain a Victorian Shooters Licence. These training courses cater for both Junior and adult shooters wishing to attain a Category A, B or C Shooters Licence.
Inspector Bennett praised all volunteer instructors for their time and effort generously given over the years, a service greatly appreciated by Victoria Police. The training program greatly reduces the strain on Police resources and long term reduces incidents of firearm related offences.
“Due to the nature of the sport, we are constantly on the lookout for reliable volunteer instructors who have an interest in firearms,” he said.
“The isolated rural country area we live draws barriers, many areas only having one instructor.
“We welcome expressions of interest from interested and reliable shooters to become volunteer Firearm Safety Instructors.
