The Mudgee Sporting Shooters Association (SSAA) will be holding the 2009 Combined Services State Championships at the Windamere shooting complex starting today (Friday).
The championships will run for three days and competitors are expected to come from all over the state with 126 medals up for grabs.
Entrants are to use pistols and rifles in “as issued” form, meaning the guns must be as they were issued to military or service personal at the time with no modifications.
Basic competition is graded on scores achieved over a number of shoots. Ranges vary from 100 to 300 metres for rifles and seven to 50 metres for pistols.
The aim of the discipline is to encourage organised competitive shooting with a view towards a better knowledge of the safe handling and proper care of service firearms.
Competition is open to all SSAA members provided they have firearms and ammunition which matches the rules as well as holding the correct licence for those firearms categories.
Classes over the three days are as follows: Friday September 18, four matches for both class one and two pistols, then .310 Cadet .22 Trainer match. Saturday September 19 three matches for both standard and modified rifles. Sunday 20th September two matches for sniper and tactical rifles, as well as presentation awards. The NSW State Discipline AGM will be held on completion of competition with Annual Dinner to follow.
