Poison problems

6PR (Perth), Drive, 05/08/2009 04:37pm

John True, resident, talks about having to shoot his dog Nugget while on a prospecting trip in Sandstone. True says his dog picked up a kangaroo leg and brought it back to camp and began to act strange five minutes later before screaming uncontrollably. He says there are many other animals dead in the area such as birds and a goanna all laying alongside the kangaroo. True says the kangaroo was poisoned and the animals that fed off it are dead too now. He says it seems someone is laying bait to catch dingos and foxes but in the three weeks he was in the area he never saw one dead dingo or one dead wild dog. True talks about a story in the Midland-Kalamunda Echo about a dog who died after eating an egg in Ellenbrook. He says the people who put the poison down admitted to doing it. Sattler says Multiplex have said they put 1080 egg-baits near developments but maintained they are buried and behind fences and signs. Sattler says the Dept of Environment & Conservation were not involved in the incident in Ellenbrook but they do drop baits over national parks and crown land.
