The ninth open Rendezvous at Millmerran went off with a hang last week.
Rendezvous is a discipline within the Sporting Shooters Association Australia (Queensland) for people who enjoy the use of muzzle-loading firearms and the re-enactment of the way the firearms were used, anywhere between the years of 1500 and 1865.
Rendezvous state discipline chairman Don Robinson said the event, which ran from Wednesday to Saturday, attracted 102 registered shooters and about 20 non-shooting competitors.
On Wednesday the pistol shooting competition was followed by a march into Millmerran, where locals lined the streets to catch a glimpse of the vintage costumes and weapons.
The non-shooting competitors participated in knife throwing, tomahawk throwing, fire lighting with flint and steel and cooking and draft competitions.
Mr Robinson said the “rule book” shoots and events were held on Thursday and Friday and the shotgun events were held on Saturday.
“The Millmerran Rendezvous happens every two years,” Mr Robinson said.
“It’s about getting back to the roots of the Rendezvous, being a gathering of people who enjoy the camaraderie and friendship of the people who enjoy this particular sport.”
Mr Robinson said Toowoomba Regional Council Mayor Peter Taylor and five other councillors attended the event and Cr Taylor even set off one of the cannons at the start of the firearms display.
