Gugliemino is as straight as a gun barrel

Griffith rifleman Alf Gugliemino demonstrated his superior shooting skills when he recently won both events conducted by the Griffith Sporting Shooters’ Association at the Rankins Springs Target Shooting Complex.
While both events were shot from a bench with the aid of a rest, they required an extremely accurate rifle and ammunition as well as a good shooting technique to find the bullseye on the distant targets.
The first event was a 200m Fly Shoot for .22 rimfire rifles and because the event is not normally shot at 200m, competitors needed to accurately judge the effect of wind on the tiny projectile.
Centred over the bullseye 10 ring is an image of a fruit fly, with competitors gaining extra points if they can hit the fly with Gugliemino the only competitor to achieve this.
At the conclusion of the Fly Shoot Gugliemino was first with a score 160, followed by Greg Young 120 and Shaun Krzus 117.
The next event for the day was a Benchrest 30 Match for centrefire rifles at 100m and again precision shooting is required as the 10 ring on this target is less than one 1cm in diameter.
The match involves shooting at 30 of these small targets, set out on a larger target in 30 minutes with tiny puffs of wind easily causing a wayward shot.
Gugliemino top-scored in this event with a score of 630, followed by Warren Brown 525 and Robert Roberts 485.
The next shoot will be held at the SSAA Rim Fire Range on July 26 when Metallic Silhouette Matches will be conducted for both bolt-action, lever-action or pump-action rimfire rifles in .22LR calibre.
All shooters are welcome to attend to try these exciting matches and to try and knock over the steel silhouette targets.
