London firm interested in Australian goat farming property

A West Australian article has revealed that a London-based private equity firm is considering the purchase of 240,000 hectares in remote Australia on which to run a feral goat herd expected to generate 50,000 head annually. Mick Doak of the Independent Livestock Services assures that the wild animals have already been beneficial in educating children and Barndon reads that investors can expect a 12% annual return from the initiative. Doak explains that the price of pastoral stations have been ‘reasonable’ and similar exercises in Malaysia have proven successful but acknowledges that sourcing required goat numbers has been difficult due to increased demand for ritual Muslim slaughter. He reminds that wild dogs, not necessarily dingos, have also brought down livestock and goat numbers and suggests a bounty cull.
