Clean sweep for Bay shooter

Bay Post, Page: 60. Wednesday, 1 July 2009

Batemans Bay shooters Ann and Tom Brummell joined shooters from Parkes, Crookwell, Canberra and districts for a 100-yard Benchrest Rifle match at the Sporting Shooters’ Association of Australia Majura range in the ACT last weekend.
Tom Brummell said many of the shooters used the competition as a warm-up for the forthcoming NSW titles, and tried various loads and equipment configurations.
“Conditions appeared benign but historically this is when the Canberra range is at its most deceptive with many potential .1 groups ruined to mid .2s or worse,” he said.
Small groups were shared around and the best A, a .265 shot, was shared by Tom Brummell and Alex Chryss. Ann Brummell recorded best B, a .230, and shared the E spoils, a .220, with Maurice Tully, of the ACT. The best C, a .250, was won by Alex Chryss. But the smallest of the day went to the best D winner, Ken Morley, from Parkes, with a very neat .157.
Tom Brummell said that, with one target to go, the final result was in the balance - four shooters were fractions apart.
After the E target, Ann Brummell shook off the pack to win the event with .2696 aggregate from Alex Chryss on .2896 and Ken Morley in third on .29 14.
The ACT Benchrest Shooter of 2009 is now at the half-way point and Ann has opened up a handy lead with four wins and a second from the five matches contested so far this year.
