Red deer now a ‘pest’ in Queensland

The red deer, which features on the modern coat of arms, is among four deer species officially declared as ‘pests’ on Wednesday.
Tim Mulherin, Queensland Minister for Primary Industries, says there are around 30,000 feral deer, which damage native vegetation, cause ecosystem degradation, compete with native animals for food and habitat, and it is feared they could spread animal diseases into the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area.
