The Sporting Shooters’ Association of Australia (ACT) Inc’s range at Majura was the venue for a 200 yard benchrest rifle shooting match last weekend.
Shooters from Wagga Wagga, Sydney, Crookwell, locals, a visiting member from Mackay and Ann and Tom Brummell of Batemans Bay braved the elements.
Eight degree temperatures combined with winds that were around 10km/h for the start of the match and escalated to around the 40kmh mark by the time the E target was posted.
To add to the competitors’ frustrations, the directional changes were as rapid as the velocity and made condition reading very tough. Some really rough and untidy groups were recorded.
Ann Brummell made light of the conditions shooting the best four of the five targets along with the best of the day on target A at .345. The only match she didn’t win was the D target that went to Steve Son of Sydney.
In the overall event, Ann was a clear winner by a big margin on .3655, with Steve Son on .4993 in second and Wagga Wagga’s Don Ewin in third on .5625.
