CSIRO says introduced species affect biodiversity

ABC Riverland SA (Renmark), Riverland Today, 25/05/2009 09:35am

Interview with Dr Mark Lonsdale, director, Biodiversity Research, CSIRO. He discusses the impact invasive species such as feral cats, foxes, weeds and pathogens can have on biodiversity, before outlining the situation they face. Lonsdale mentions the development of a national biodiversity strategy, hoping that in the meantime people will take measures such as opting for native gardens. He thinks an international awareness of the issue has led to it being taken more seriously, welcoming a UN initiative to combat invasive species.
