Ken Butson has exceeded his own expectations, winning two gold medals and a bronze in clay target shooting and another gold in the sports pistol event at the South Australian Masters Games in Ceduna recently.
Ken has a long association with target shooting, beginning his interest as a competitor during his formative years.
A local contractor and a member of both the Southern Gun Club at Goolwa and the Goolwa Pistol Club where he is a wealth of support to new members is valued for his input.
During the Easter Weekend seven members of the Goolwa Pistol and Shooting club went to Townsville to shoot in the National Muzzleloading Championships of the Sporting Shooters Association of Australia.
Attending were Scott Chapman, Michael Sutton, John, Dianne and Cody Humberstone and David and Heather Dodd.
Goolwa had the most members attending from any one club in Australia with South Australian shooters made up the majority of competitors at the National competition.
In his first ever shoot or competition with muzzleloading, Cody Humberstone was the youngest competitor and equaled his grandfathers’ score in the shotgun event.
Scott Chapman again showed his prowess by winning a bronze and silver medal.
He has previously been successful at the World Muzzleloading competition held at Monarto last August.
John Humberstone also excelled by winning a gold and two silver medals.
To shoot so well in hot and humid conditions was an extra credit to all competitors.
The Goolwa branch wishes to remind members that there will be an extraordinary general meeting held at the Peel Place, Currency Creek range facilities on the May 16 at 9am.
It is important that members attend to discuss the future of this highly respected and valued club. Please contact secretary, Heather Dodd for further enquiries on 8552 4093.
