Advisory group for gun laws

Adelaide Advertiser, Page: 26. Saturday, 2 May, 2009

Gun experts from 11 organisations will help form a new advisory group to provide policy advice to Police Minister Michael Wright on the development of new gun laws.
Mr Wright said it was time to develop a firearms act that reflected contemporary firearms control.
“It’s important that this legislation is rolled out efficiently and effectively and the best way to do that, we feel, is to consult closely with stakeholders in the industry,” he said.
“Any changes to the act need to be practical, sensible and allow police to focus their efforts on serious crime.” The Firearms Legislative Advisory Group will include members from Mr Wright’s office, the SA Police, primary producers, security industry, sporting shooters, collectors and antique associations, firearms dealers and manufacturers.
