Special shoot at rifle range

Goulburn Post, Page: 14. Wednesday, 22 April, 2009

As a memorial to every Anzac Digger who carried the historic .303 Lee-Enfield rifle into battle over the best part of a century, the Goulburn branch of the Sporting Shooters’ Association of Australia (SSAA) is inviting anyone who owns one - or any other military issue rifle of any description - to come to their commemorative shoot on Sunday, April 26 at the Goulburn rifle range, commencing at 1300 hours.
Shooters must bring a current firearms licence (Class B) and should also bring a good set of ear muffs and at least 10 rounds of ammunition.
All rifles should be in good condition and “cleaned and lightly oiled” as per your Regimental Sar’ Major’s orders.
Branch president Ken Kenchington said that all military rifle owners would be welcome to shoot on Sunday, and that range fees will be waived to guests.
“The Goulbum rifle range is a part of Australia’s military history, and it will be a pleasure for SSAA Goulburn to host these valuable artefacts,” Mr Kenchington said.
“If we get a reasonable number of people turn up to blow the cobwebs out we will consider making this an annual event.”
