Shooters right on target at titles

The Dalby branch of Sporting Shooters Association of Australia (SSAA) hosted the South West Queensland Metallic Silhouette Championships at its Mt Pleasant range near Dalby recently.
Twenty shooters competed in the event travelling from Ipswich, Warwick, Toowoomba, Brisbane, Warra, Kogan and Dalby.
The rimfire event was held in the morning with targets at 40 to 100 metres.
Allan Murray of Ipswich won the Masters grade just beating Mal Smith of Warwick by one point.
Mike Berry of Toowoomba won the AAA grade with local shooters Jan Linsley, Dan Linsley and junior Riley Dempsey close behind.
The AA grade event was won by Peter Rudder of Toowoomba, A grade by Howard Robertson of Brisbane and B grade by junior Brennan Dempsey.
Junior awards were shared by the Dempsey boys with Riley first and Brennan second.
After lunch the centrefire event was held with targets at 200 to 500 metres.
AAA grade placings were the reverse of the morning masters grade with Mal Smith first and Allan Murray second with Jan Linsley coming in third.
Sue Murray of Ipswich won the AA grade with Peter Rudder winning the A grade and Len Poulsen of Dalby the B grade.
Riley Dempsey won the junior award as well as coming third in the AA grade.
The overall winner was Mal Smith with Allan Murray just two points behind.
Top veteran was won by Peter Rud-Organisers were delighted with the day with some good shooting in all grades including promising performances by women and juniors.
