Hunting crocodiles will manage population numbers
ABC Central Australia (Alice Springs), NT Country Hour, 06/04/2009 12:39pm
Interview with Matt Kelman, Australia Wide Safaris, who feels hunting crocodiles for sport is an acceptable way to keep crocodile populations level. Matt Kelman says some people may spend in excess of $10,000 to hunt a large crocodile. Kelman says realistically, the majority of crocodiles to be hunted shall be 12-14ft. Kelman also says the government must be mindful that safari goers can easily travel to Africa to hunt a Nile crocodile at US$2000, so figures must be set wisely. Kelman also says the people that pay up to $10,000 for safari’s are not ‘rednecks’, they are successful business people with a hobby and as long as safari’s are licensed, there is no way they shall get out of hand.
