Forbes Sporting Shooters’ (SSAA) is another sporting body showing their support for one of the many charities in town.
On Sunday, the SSAA will be conducting a 20-target charity shoot in support of CanAssist from 9am and everyone is invited to the range on the Bedgerebong Road (next to the Forbes Airport) to try their hand at clay target shooting while supporting the Forbes cancer support body.
Teams of five shooters are invited with many Forbes business houses being approached to support the shoot.
A charge of $25 per person covers use of firearm, cartridges, clays and assistance from a licensed club member.
“Anyone who wants to shoot and cannot fill a team only has to come out to the range on Sunday and we will soon get you into a team,” SSAA publicity officer Tony Bratton said yesterday morning.
“At this stage, we have 15 teams confirmed but really we would like to see double that number considering the charity involved.
“There is a simple to fill out declaration form from NSW Police which only takes a few seconds to complete but is necessary in today ‘s climate,” he said.
Secretary of the SSAA Doug Davis added his support in encouraging more team nominations.
“You don ‘t have to be from a business house to nominate, get a team from your family or friends, everyone is welcome, and like Tony said, single nominations are welcome as we will soon find a team for you to join,” Davis said.
“The day is a fundraiser, there are no winners at shooting, only CanAssist.
“We will be taking nominations on the day, just turn up.
“For those who want to make a day of it we will be serving morning and afternoon tea as well as a barbecue lunch, and the ladies have been busy with plenty of scones, slices, etcetera on the menu.
“We have plans for a big day’s shooting and socialising, all in support of CanAssist,” Davis said.
He added Forbes SSAA is not new to fundraising.
“Back in May 1995, the club held a charity shoot for Forbes District Hospital, raising $4500 for the purchase of a foetal monitor.
“Over the years several very successful fundraisers have been held for CareFlight and other worthy causes,” he said.
Prior to Sunday ‘s charity shoot first timers ‘ can take advantage of the practice trap with a donation of $5 for five targets, again a licensed shooter will be in attendance to assist as will be the case with all shoots on Sunday.
