Duck and quail hunting in South Australia

ABC 891 Adelaide (Adelaide), Breakfast , 26/03/2009 06:46am

Compere John Kenneally says duck and quail hunting will resume this week in South Australia for the first time in three years. Allan Holmes says the ban was based on the population data and says despite the drought, there are now enough ducks available for a small shoot. He says it runs from this weekend until the last weekend in May and the bag limit is four per day. He says there are only 2000 registered hunters in South Australia. He explains how to get a licence and the two issues with duck hunting. He says one issue is around the conservation of species and the other is on animal welfare. Somebody via an off-air message says “You should not be giving these barbaric men airtime”. Compere Tony McCarthy says he is not talking to a barbaric man, but to Holmes, who’s in charge of the agency engaged to manage the duck hunt. Holmes says the duck hunters in South Australia are an extraordinarily responsible group.
