Verdase says that his community would like to find out how they can access more camel meat and milk. He says these products are high in protein. He says the meat is low in cholesterol. Verdase says he cannot get hold of camel meat yet. Compere Kieran Weir says the head count says that there are 700,000 feral camels roaming free in the far north of SA and into the NT. McHugh says he would like to see the camel industry in Australia become a similar industry to what the cattle and sheep industry is. He says it just takes the government of the day to put in place legislation and to embrace the industry as an industry. He says he believes there are around two million feral camels throughout Australia.
Interviewee: Paddy McHugh, Australian Camel Farm; Nagasa Verdase, representative of the East African community in Melbourne.
