Hunting feral pigs

ABC South Coast WA (Albany), Rural Report, 15/12/2008 06:42am

Martin Atwell, Invasive Species Project Manager, Central Agricultural Region, Department of Agriculture and Food, discusses the problem with the growth and spread of feral pigs. He says there has been a natural increase due to the weather conditions, but there has been movement with people placing pigs in to the countryside for sport-hunting. Feral pigs become a reservoir for diseases and can spread this to domestic pigs, as well as damaging crops and they are considered a feral pest that need to be controlled. Atwell says there have been increasing reports from farmers and complaints.
