Gun amnesty unlikely to remove illegal firearms, says SSAA SA

ABC 891 Adelaide (Adelaide), 13:00 News, 13/10/2008 01:07pm

The Sporting Shooters’ Association of Australia says that a gun amnesty is unlikely to get illegal firearms off the streets. The government is proposing the amnesty after a number of recent shootings in the city. Greg Dodd says amnesties are useful, but he doubts whether people will hand in illegal guns. He says the police need to be looking at the other criminal activities that prompt people to illegally own a firearm, such as drugs or bikie gangs.
