Gun laws no hindrance

Adelaide Advertiser, Page: 2. Tuesday, 7 October 2008

Tougher gun laws and harsher penalties will not help solve street crime, say AdelaideNow readers.
More than 50 responded to the website’s coverage of the third Gouger St shooting in five months.
“We don’t need tougher penalties with the laws anymore ... the courts continue to refuse to deliver the penalties the majority of the community demand and expect,” says B of Adelaide. “The solution is to take the decision making out of the hands of the judiciary for chronic repeat offenders under a three-strikes policy.” Queenslander Morgan says the “simple reason why there are guns on the streets is the same reason for all ... crime only honest people obey the gun laws!” Vinny, of Edwardstown, also had his take on the issue: “Gun laws, gun laws and more gun laws write up as many as you like, the criminals can’t read and don’t care.”
