Compere Deb Tribe says SAPOL will be given more powers to act against people in possession of illegal fire arms under new laws announced by the SA Government this afternoon. The legislation is targeted at bikie gangs and violent gun crimes. Holloway says the laws include the introduction of firearm prohibition orders. He says these include temporary orders, which police can order. He says there are also firearm prohibition orders, which are issued by the Registrar of Firearms. He says SAPOL search powers have been strengthened if reasonable ground can be found. He says SAPOL are gathering and analysing information in preparation for the laws taking affect. He says there are up to $75,000 in fines or 15 years in prison for breaches of the orders.
