Hunting protesters

Canberra Times, Page: 10. Tuesday, 12 February 2008

I was at the Wodonga hunting expo (“Protesters at hunting expo”, February 10, p14), and there were, I believe, a total of 12 activists who arrived to chant obscene insults at the group of persons queuing for entry, with placards such as “Big Guns, Small Dicks” and “Hunters target children”.
This legitimate event brought visitors from all over the world. I met guests from United States, Canada and Africa, and the financial contribution to the border cities was substantial.
Hunting is a traditional, lawful, healthy pursuit that many people pursue: men, women arid children.
The fact that a certain sector of our community seems to find eating meat objectionable arid wish to inflict their insecurities on others is wrong.
They have no right trying to demonise those of us that hunt. I live my life with the view “to each their own” and I am unashamedly a carnivore.
I derive great pleasure from preparing my own food, from the field to the plate, and these criminals have no right to interfere with that choice.
Greg Benton, Wangaratta, Vic

Many families went to Wodonga to enjoy a lawful sporting event only to have a bunch of “professional” protesters ruin it for them (“Protesters at hunting expo”, February 10, p14).
The protesters were troublemakers brought in by people that refuse to accept other people’s lifestyles.
Hunting is not just about trophies, in my case it’s about food, healthy, fresh, great-tasting food.
