SSAA Hunting & Conservation Branch cull feral goats around Burra

ABC North & West SA (Port Pirie), Breakfast, 07/01/2008 07:17am

The effects of feral populations, such as of goats for example, puts a strain on National Parks. A program is about to begin in the conservation parks around Burra to cut down feral populations. Falkenberg explains that landowners are impacted with feral fox populations eating their lambs. He says as everyone works cooperatively as a group then the results are greater throughout the area. He says this week’s operation will focus on goats and will be undertaken by the Sporting Shooters’ Hunting & Conservation Branch volunteers who do a very professional job. He says there are groups of 50-100 goats in the region and as they work through the area to exploit food resources.
Interviewee: Ian Falkenberg, Department of Environment and Heritage, Mid North, District Ranger.
