Changes to kangaroo culling program proposed

Channel 7 (Perth), Seven News (Weekend), 05/01/2008 06:14pm

Animal welfare groups are outraged at a proposal to shoot kangaroo joeys at close range with a shotgun. The recommendation is being considered by the Federal Government as part of changes to its kangaroo culling program. Dr David Freudenberger, Scientist says kangaroo numbers need to be controlled because their top predator, the dingo has been removed. Michael Linke, RSPCA says kangaroos should not be controlled with a shotgun at close range because it will not kill them instantly.
Interviewee: Michael Linke, RSPCA; Dr David Freudenberger, Scientist.
