Murphy’s Law, irony, quirk of fate, paradox. Use whatever term you like. The bottom line is that my much-anticipated holiday turned into a Spanish version of National Lampoon’s Vacation.
I’d been looking forward to the trip for months, maybe even years. After all, it isn’t often I get to leave behind my gun shop, but I’d finally had enough. The break I needed was 10 years overdue.
My wife and I planned a three-week tour of Spain, which included a trip to the Royal Armoury of Madrid. Things were going well until we missed our connecting flight at Heathrow Airport. Unfortunately, that was the least of our worries. Additional hotel accommodation plus flight transfer fees cost us a small fortune and to make things even worse, we found that our luggage had a different destination in mind when we finally arrived in Madrid.
