Woodleigh, Sierra and Winchester - a powerful combination
Winchester recently partnered up with Woodleigh and Sierra Bullets to produce two new .308 Winchester rounds and a .223 Remington round. The Australian Varmint Special and Large Game Special rounds sit at the top of the tree when it comes to the .308-calibre. The rounds have been developed to suit the premium quality 130- and 180-grain projectiles supplied by Woodleigh bullets - a company that has been making bullets in Australia for Australian conditions for more than 30 years. Sierra’s .223 Remington Game King projectile also sets the benchmark for quality and value. The result is three new products demonstrating increased accuracy and increased reliability without compromising knockdown power:

A few months back, Winchester Australia’s quality control manager Glenn Falla led a small team of testers into the Australian outback for the trial of these new centrefire rounds. “All of the science behind these new loads had been well and truly worked through, so we headed up north to give these new rounds and a few other new ideas including our Varmint Special .223 a go,” says Glenn. “Field testing is what we are most interested in. Shooting through scrub, wind and all those other variations is the most important test for our team to conduct. The rigors of the open country combined with the bullet meeting the variables of flesh and bone are much more in line with our end user’s experience in comparison to controlled tests we can do in the lab. And we are very happy with how the field test went.”
As part of this extreme testing regime, Winchester is also calling for Australian shooters to become quality testers of these new products. Hundreds of shooters gave us their opinion of our new rimfire products earlier this year and now is their chance to let us know what they think after shooting these new centrefire rounds. Shooters should visit www.winchesteraustralia.com.au/qualitytester and fill out the digital form to become a Winchester Quality Tester.
These products are now available to be purchased from your local firearms dealer. Extremely positive tests have also been completed for an all new .243 Winchester round loaded with a 70-grain Sierra HPBT projectile. The Australian-made .243 Winchester Varmint Special will likely see dealer shelves in autumn 2012, with further details to be released in the new year.
