Work begins on Nioa’s new high-security facility
Earthworks have now commenced on Nioa’s new state-of-the-art facility, with completion scheduled for early 2013. Strategically located in the heart of the Brisbane Airport precinct, Nioa’s new headquarters and distribution centre is poised to become one of the most comprehensive commercial, law enforcement and military supply hubs in the southern hemisphere.
The secure facility will significantly expand Nioa’s ability to serve future commercial, law enforcement and military markets with many purpose-built features; including high-capacity Class 1 Dangerous Goods storage, Australia’s largest privately owned defence accredited weapons store, a weapons maintenance facility and a dedicated optics laboratory. In addition, Nioa’s capability for product testing and training will be further enhanced with the inclusion of a 100m indoor test fire range, 300-seat auditorium and commercial catering facilities. The indoor range will be supplemented with environmental conditioning capabilities so that Nioa will be able to qualify firearms and accessory products and systems on behalf of our military and law enforcement customers. Built to comply with strict Defence Security Manual specifications, the facility also boasts direct airside access for secure movement of firearms and munitions via air transport.
With 6,000m2 of warehousing space and a state-of-the art administration centre, commercial and recreational shooters will also benefit with an expanded range of brands and increased stock holdings ready for quick delivery. The site area covers 13 acres of land and allows for a further 15,000m2 of future warehouse expansion.
Managing director Rob Nioa said, “I’m excited about the new capabilities this facility will bring to Nioa’s suite of services and with the growth we have had in recent years, we knew it was time to take that next step. This new facility will enable us to spread our wings and capture important emerging markets, as well as improving on everything we are currently doing.”
