Winchester announces new 42Max rimfire lines and Quality Testing opportunities
Over the past few years, Winchester Australia’s engineers have tested many different rimfire configurations in an attempt to create a heavier, harder hitting bullet. In mid 2010, the creator of the original legendary Power-Point rimfire round Ron Quinn and engineer Anthony Post met to attempt to create Winchester Australia’s best rimfire bullet yet. Putting aside all of the ideas that had been tried before, the two designers started with a clean sheet. What they developed became Winchester 42Max Power-Point and Subsonic.
| Power-Point 42Max | Subsconic 42Max | |
| Symbol | PP22LRH42 | W22SUB42 |
| Calibre | .22LR | .22LR |
| Projectile | Copper-plated lead MAX hollow-point | Lead MAX hollow-point |
| Weight (grains) | 42 | 42 |
| Velocity (fps) | 1320 | 1065 |
As a celebration of these new products, Winchester Australia would like to inject a bit of excitement to the marketplace by giving consumers the opportunity to become Winchester Quality Testers and shoot the products free of charge. Five-round trial packs of each product will be available to consumers who purchase any rimfire product (Winchester or otherwise) at selected dealers (listed below). Winchester aims to give away over 100,000 rounds of the new product to 20,000 shooters nationwide. 42Max will be available for retail purchase in April 2011.
Quality Testers will then be able to give the team at Winchester Australia their feedback by visiting www.winchesteraustralia.com.au/qualitytester and filling out the web-form or filling out the form enclosed with each product and mailing back to us here at Winchester Australia. Random entries will be published on the same webpage as they are received. The above webpage also allows shooters to view gelatin testing videos and listen to a run through of the benefits of the new 42max ammunition by designer Anthony Post.

New packaging style launch
As part of the launch of 42Max, Winchester Australia will also introduce the new Winchester packaging style - a world first for any Winchester ammunition product. The innovative new packaging will seamlessly integrate Australian and US ammunition products in terms of presentation and will also feature much more detailed product information and an illustrative game recommendation. It will also be more attractive than the current offering. Over the next 12 months, shooters can expect to see all Winchester ammunition lines slowly move over into the new packaging style.
