Lamellar’s performance apparel layering system for hunters and shooters

Lamellar, Australia’s performance hunting apparel and accessories provider, has recently committed to continually invest in innovative fabric and garment technologies to build on Australia’s first performance apparel layering system offered to the hunting and shooting industries.

Tom Chan, marketing director of Lamellar, comments, “We’re proud to be the first in Australia to develop and offer a layering system to the hunting industry, which is often a neglected market. By taking the initiative to develop our own innovative fabrics and trim components and by designing our own functional and systematic hunting garments, I strongly believe the benefit will flow directly to the hunting and shooting industry as the performance hunting clothing benchmark will be raised.”

Lamellar’s performance layering approach is derived from the proven and more mature hiking, trekking and mountaineering outdoor sporting industry. Since its inception, Lamellar has recognised the need for an effective layering system to offer functional, technical performance and most importantly, comfort; while customising Lamellar’s product offering to cater for the unique demands of Australia’s hunters and shooters.

Lamellar has developed a combination of technical garments, which can be added or removed as needed to manage the body’s microclimate. Each layer interacts with each other in order for the hunting enthusiast to remain dry and comfortable in a variety of activity levels and climate conditions, therefore allowing the wearer to focus on what they love most, hunting. It also features a number of customised features in each layer of the system, which enhances the chances of success for hunters and shooters.

The core layer, commonly referred to as the ‘base layer’, is a next-to-skin garment designed to provide ‘moisture wicking’ capabilities to promote dryness, comfort and warmth. It also protects the skin from harmful UV rays and reduces odours from the body. Lamellar’s core layer garments use EcoACT bamboo charcoal fabric technology to address the core layer performance requirements by taking advantage of the fabrics inherent functional properties. In addition, Lamellar’s core layer garments are designed around the contours of the body to remove restrictions and to ensure the clothing system works with the body’s natural movement.

The mantle layer garment is designed to insulate the hunter’s body in colder climate conditions. As the mantle layer is worn directly over the core layer, it must also allow moisture to transfer to the outer surface of the garment to reduce any clammy, sweaty effect.

The outer layer is the outermost garment that is in direct contact with the outdoor environment. This layer is designed to allow moisture transfer from the inside layers to the outer surface. It is also designed to protect the hunter and shooter from wind, rain, snow and other external elements in the hunter or shooter’s outdoor surroundings. Furthermore, the outer layer garment should be rugged and durable to withstand the physical elements thrown at it including seed grass, burrs, rock edges and thorn bushes often associated with any normal hunting adventure in Australia.

More specifically for the hunting industry, it is equally important to reduce noise levels, fabric light reflectivity and any unnecessary body movement in the field. Lamellar’s garments are engineered for these demands and have factored in technical design features in both the fabric and the garment to cater to the needs of the hunting industry. Some of Lamellar’s unique design features include: noise reduction - soft finish, brushed face fabric; stretch comfort - specially weaved, four-way stretch fabric and membrane; agile comfort - garment designed for maximum freedom of movement; durable - woven, stretchable lining and face fabric performance; and glare/light reflection reduction - special finish face fabric.

The extreme outdoor sports, industrial safety and military industries have benefited from the systematic layering approach for many years and Lamellar is proud to bring this shifting innovation to the hunting and shooting industry in Australia. Lamellar’s constructively engineered, flexible, purpose-built apparel layering system will ensure hunters and shooters are comfortable and will stay protected in any weather condition that Mother Nature can throw at them.
