Karamoja, Uganda, reopened for hunting

For the first time in more than 30 years, the north-eastern Ugandan region of Karamoja has reopened for hunting and Kuduland Safaris (Africa) Ltd is privileged to be one of a few safari companies acting as agents for these exploratory hunts.

This vast (27,000km2/10,000 square mile) and beautiful region has not been hunted for more than 30 years. After the demise of Idi Amin in the late 1970s, constant insecurity and widespread use of automatic rifles by the Karimojong warriors had more or less sealed Karamoja from the outside world. In the past few years, the Ugandan Government has seriously tackled the issue, and an effective disarmament program has returned the region to normalcy.

Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) has entered into Cooperation Management Agreements with two Companies for the management of wildlife in the Wildlife Reserves, Community Wildlife Areas and Communal Land in Karamoja.

This is a rare opportunity to hunt the real Africa - to go with the local tribesmen to their traditional hunting grounds, to live an unscripted adventure that will not be possible anymore in a few years: asphalt is coming, the region is opening up, and things will soon change.

If you are adventurous, more interested in the rich experience and discovery than in measuring horn inches (although there are some serious trophies in there and anything is possible), if you are fit and flexible in your schedule and approach, then this is probably one of the last opportunities to hunt in uncharted territories in Africa and getting as close to what is the everyday reality on this continent.
