Welcome to our silver issue of Hunter. That’s right - it’s the 25th collectors’ edition of Australia’s favourite hunting magazine!

The majority of licensed shooters in Australia are recreational hunters. We created Hunter to entertain and educate these hunters, as well as educate non-hunters and create a positive and ethical profile of hunting in Australia.

Hunting, as we know, has a very long history and can take many forms. Some people hunt for meat for the table, as a healthy and ethical alternative to store-bought meat, while others do it for that once-in-a-lifetime trophy. Many hunt to rid their farms or properties of feral animals. Hunting, of course, is necessary for managing game populations and quality and is essential to conservation and the environment. Sometimes, hunting can be an escape from the pressures of modern life and we do it to get back to nature and feel a part of it. These are all valid pastimes and are all part of Australia’s hunting heritage.

The Hunter had humble beginnings as a periodical and then annual magazine. When it became a quarterly, it had Australia’s largest subscription base for a hunting magazine. Now in its eighth year of publication, who knows what’s next for the Hunter!
