Welcome to the 2010 edition of Australian & New Zealand Handgun - the finest magazine for recreational and professional handgunners this side of the Pacific Ocean.
When it comes to handgun shooting, this Handgun magazine is fully loaded! First up, we have the Target section, where you can learn about choosing powder and primers for your pistols and reloading your own ammunition. Reloading, of course, is not only a fantastic way to save money, but also enables you to select your own components and fine-tune your loads to your firearm, calibre, discipline and style of shooting.
While it would seem as though the basics of firearms manufacturing and shooting hasn’t changed too much over the years, the ways in which we can practise and review our shooting has changed. This is highlighted in this edition by pistol shooting coach Ric Tester, who teaches us how video recording and computer programs can be used to analyse and perfect our shooting techniques.
In our Review section, our experienced handgunners road-test a number of handguns from a variety of manufacturers. Daniel O’Dea, who is pictured on this edition’s cover, reviews the PT 1911 and PT 24/7-OSS self-loading pistols from Brazilian manufacturer Taurus, while Jack Crawford takes a look at several 1911 pistol variants from Shooters Arms Manufacturing (SAM) in the Philippines.
Those who shoot revolvers are well catered for too, with our reviews on the Smith & Wesson Model 629-6 Classic .44 Magnum and Ruger Super Redhawk .454 Casull revolvers. These are big calibres, but highly effective and necessary for knocking over those heavy targets in the Handgun Metallic Silhouette discipline!
In our Historical section, Leo Laden discusses collecting English flintlock duelling pistols from the late 18th century, while Geoff Smith takes us 100 years later to the introduction of the curious but cute looking Belgian and British Bull Dog revolvers.
We feature our usual Industry Round-up so you can read about the latest wares from Australia’s biggest distributors and gunshops and also offer you the chance to win a CMore Serendipity .750 sight or a CR Speed WSMII holster, valued at $375 and $285 respectively.
Enjoy all that this edition has to offer and feel free to drop us a line if there’s anything you’d like to read about in future editions of your Handgun magazine.
Happy reading and safe shooting.
