Welcome to the inaugural issue of Australian and New Zealand Handgun magazine. This publication has been a long time in the pipeline. More than two years ago we decided we wanted to produce a magazine that showcased the very best of handgun shooting. To create a positive image of a sport that for so long has been in the shadows and denigrated either by a cynical media or a knee jerk response government.
Just around the corner is the Athens Olympics and what better time to showcase Australia’s three handgun medal hopefuls featured on the front cover. The interesting thing about the three women is how different they are to each other, yet they all share the bond of dedication, commitment and the raw desire to win and represent their country. The shooting sports have a habit of drawing different people together. They represent the pinnacle of handgun sports and we will be backing them all the way to Greece.
Of course not everyone has the commitment or desire to compete at such lofty levels and prefer to compete at club level or just simply wish to master the skill of handgun shooting. For those of you who are new to the sport, it’s not as simple as it looks on television.
We’ve taken, what we believe, is a well rounded approach to handgun shooting in this issue with stories and a training manual that will appeal to the club shooter, collector, historian or even those that require the ability to use a handgun for their chosen profession, be it in the police or military forces, vet, guide, farmer, security industry or even acting!
Thanks finally to our advertising sponsors and of course the Sporting Shooters Association of Australia (SSAA) and the International Practical Shooting Confederation (IPSC) that have supported this project from the beginning.
Enjoy Handgun.
