WA Muzzleloading State Championships Part 1
24-25 March 2012

No less than eight state records were beaten over the glorious weekend of March 24 and 25 when 17 individual events were contested at the Perth Muzzle Loading Club by two dozen of the state’s top muzzleloaders. The standard of competition was far higher than in many previous years too. All of the events, except the two shotgun Trap events, comprised of 13 shots, with the top 10 shooters to score and with no pre-match practice. Many of the hot favourites did their stuff and won their special events, but of interest were several long shots, who came good on the day and beat records. There were events for percussion revolvers and pistols, both rifled and smoothbore flintlock pistols, flintlock and matchlock muskets, model cannon and 25-bird Trap for both percussion and flintlock (including a matchlock) shotguns.

The computer scoring was organised by Vince Haines, Paul Schipp, Frank Della and Jobnathan Harris. They also did most of the scoring, while Doug Beaman and Roy Jackson were on hand to assist with all of the other jobs that need to be done. The whole weekend was exceptionally well organised by Rick Denniston, and everything was as per the shooting schedule, with a sumptuous barbecue at lunch time.
