Griffith Sporting Clays Two-Day Shoot
14-15 May 2011

Many of the top Sporting Clays shooters from around New South Wales and Victoria converged on the Dave Wallace Range at Griffith to compete in the MIA Simulated Field Championships and the Riverina Sporting Clays Championships that were conducted by SSAA Griffith Sporting Clays.

“Thanks to generous sponsorship by local businesses, the club was able to offer more than $6000 worth of prizes with a rich prize pool being offered to the winners of each championship and for overall top scores over the weekend’s 200 targets”, said Club President Warren Brown.

Generous sponsorship was received from Liftek Griffith who provided Karcher Pressure Washers for the overall winners of the High Gun and in each grade. This was supplemented by Casella Wines and Berton Vineyards at Griffith and ELEY Cartridges, with all winners being recipients of their generosity. Waeco Fridges, Highland Sports and Royal Wolf Containers also contributed to the extensive prize pool.

Local members had set up two Sporting Clays layouts in the bush with a variety of very challenging targets that tested the skills and concentration of all competitors. Each shooting station made use of the bush terrain or towers at the club to provide some unique targets not found at any other national club. Competitors were faced with targets appearing from behind trees, zipping down cliff faces or having to shoot from on top of towers. Griffith shooters again demonstrated their prowess with these types of targets with a home-ground advantage.

Griffith shooter Doug Osborne displayed his masterful skills with a shotgun by winning both Championships and the weekend’s High Gun with a superb score of 178/200.
