Quirindi Sporting Clays Annual Two-Day Shoot
30 April - 1 May 2011

Our two-day shooting event of the year, which was held on the weekend April 30 and May 1, is now know as the best shoot in Australia, according to shooters and their families who attend this outstanding Sporting Clays shoot. Who would have ever thought that our little club, situated near a little town called Quirindi in New South Wales, would ever get to this status. I have to say, if it wasn’t for the amazing committee and helpers we have, it never would.
Our dedicated committee, consisting of Athol, Keith, Graeme, JB, Hosko, Ian and Graham, are out there a week before the event doing what they have to do to make this shoot run smoothly over the weekend. And, not only then, but months before, they are bettering the grounds area and putting in the little touches that bring the comments “There is always something new here when we come each year!”
Thank you to George Harris from Electrostar for all the work his company has done before our shoot. It is just one of the things of having lights around makes it a lot easier on the eyes. Legacy also played a big part in our weekend by helping us fill traps and more; it takes a load off from our guys who have enough to do, so thank you!
This year, the canteen was run by Betty and Marnie Saunders and their family and friends. The meals were cooked in camp ovens and were very yummy indeed. You all did an excellent job. Thank you to Sheryl, who has the job of pushing through nearly 200 shooters each day so we don’t finish in the dark. Sheryl does an excellent job on the microphone by keeping the squads rolling through and with this, we always seem to finish in daylight.
Gwen and Di are the lovely ladies who run the office. This is always a busy job, with shooters having to show licences, paying nominations and being squadded. These two ladies do an outstanding job and are always happy and very polite. They know what they’re doing and where they’re going. Thanks to Jo, who does behind-the-scenes work four months ahead, sending out the nominations and squadding the shooters when they come in. Thanks to Bub and Sharnie for coming out on the Saturday to sell raffle tickets. The last thank-you goes to our dedicated sponsors, for without these wonderful people and businesses, we wouldn’t have this amazing shoot that everyone raves about. These sponsors give every year and because of that, we are able to give such excellent prizes. We are so lucky to have you.
Over the weekend, we had 198 shooters on Saturday and 194 on Sunday. Ten ladies shot, 11 juniors, 23 veterans (over 60 years) and 11 super veterans (over 70 years). It was an excellent rollup. Our pre-nomination winner for 2012 is Scott Porter from Willow Tree. Congratulations Scott, you have free nominations for our two-day shoot next year.
The State of Origin team event between New South Wales and Queensland is sponsored by Saunders Contracting from Willow Tree. A team is picked from these states on the Saturday and scores are totalled on the Sunday. The winning team this year goes again to New South Wales with a score of 777; Queensland had 741. Thank you to the Saunders family for sponsoring this event.
An air rifle was donated by Arms & Ammo from Cessnock. All scores were thrown into a tub and one pulled out. The winning ticket went to Laura Marshall from Cessnock.
Congratulations and a big thank you to everyone involved in another successful shoot. Until next time, shoot well.
