Forbes 5-Stand Super Shoot
10-11 October 2009

SSAA Forbes Branch was the venue for a 5-Stand Super Shoot on 10-11 October. Two 5-Stand layouts had been prepared with one provided by the SSAA (NSW) Shotgun Trailer operated by Trailer Manager, Greg Allen. With plenty of space and a variety of traps two excellent layouts proved to be quite challenging for competitors.
With a smaller number of competitors than anticipated, many dedicated 5-Stand shooters attended from Sydney, Dubbo, Griffith, Gosford, Temora, Bathurst and around the Forbes district. With some practice rounds on Saturday afternoon, the targets proved to be considerably harder on Sunday when a strong, gusty wind sprang up in the morning with many targets having to be taken on their individual merits each time.
At the conclusion of the 100 targets, Doug Osborne (Griffith) claimed the High Gun with a score of 87/100. This was a very credible score given the conditions.
A Grade: Grant Powell (Sydney) was 1st with 84, followed by Laurie Redfern (Forbes) 80.
B Grade: Norm Brooks (Forbes) was 1st with 71, followed by Warren Brown (Griffith) 69.
C Grade: Glen Bloink (Dubbo) was 1st with 65, followed by Stephen Cooper (Forbes) 60.
The top Lady Shooter was Amy Buys from Gosford with a score of 57/100.
President Norm Brooks thanked everyone for coming with special thanks to Grant Powell for the donation of a BBQ for the High Gun and Casella Wines for the Yellow Tail wine. SSAA Forbes Branch intends that this shoot will be the re-vitalisation of 5-Stand shooting locally with more regular shoots planned for the future.
